MICHAEL E. SHORT
MICHAEL E. SHORT was born in Grove Hill, Alabama and grew up in Monroeville, Alabama. Michael graduated from Auburn University in 1994 with a Business Administration (Marketing) degree and later received his Masters of Education from Auburn University in 1996. Michael received his law degree from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 2004, where he was the Associate Director of Mediation for the Trial Advocacy Board, as well as a member of the Alabama Defense Lawyer’s Association. He is admitted to practice in Alabama courts and is a member of the Lee County Bar Association and the Alabama State Bar Association, where he is an active member of the Family Law Section. Michael is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Middle Districts of Alabama.
Michael takes a commonsense, practical approach to helping his clients resolve their unique issues and disputes. His practice focuses on family/divorce law, criminal law, university/campus student misconduct to include Title IX grievances, and general litigation. He is often asked by his fellow attorneys to serve as a mediator in domestic relations/divorce cases. Michael served as City Prosecutor in Auburn Municipal Court from 2004 to 2014. In October of 2007, the readers of the Opelika – Auburn News voted Michael the Best Lawyer in Lee County, Alabama. Michael has also served as an evening adjunct professor for Huntingdon College.
Mr. Short and his wife are the parents of two sons. Mr. Short is involved in coaching youth sports and he previously served as a member of the Auburn Youth Football Association Board. In his spare time, Michael enjoys Auburn University athletics.
